TURMERIC TAHINI DRESSING

Today’s creamy Turmeric Tahini Dressing is all around amazing! It is easy to whip up, tastes delicious, and adds a boost of nutrition to the top of your salads, warming nourish bowls, healthy wraps, and even tacos! Not to mention the ingredients in this recipe are simple and nutritious.

Homemade hearty dressings are the way to go and can boost your salad with added nutritional benefits. Store bought dressings typically contain processed ingredients which will defeat the purpose of your salad, so let’s just forget about them and move on. Making your own dressing is so quick and easy, you likely already have ingredients kicking around to whip some up. Once you get in the habit of making your own dressings, and get more creative with it, I bet you wont be reaching for it at the grocery store anymore!

Turmeric is one of the nutrient stars in this dressing containing anti-inflammatory properties that help fight off inflammation in the body and antioxidants that help keep our cells healthy. Many of you might already know that Curcumin is the principle component of Turmeric, an article from Science Direct states that Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory agent that has been used for treating medical conditions for many years. Additionally, it is important to note that our body cannot properly absorb Curcumin into the bloodstream without black pepper due to low absorption in the gut, poor solubility, and accelerated metabolism and elimination. This is why adding a pinch of black pepper with turmeric is essential for reaping the benefits Curcumin delivers.

Tahini butter is another star in this dressing, but not necessarily for it’s nutritional value when compared to turmeric. I like using tahini butter in dressings and sauces as a base because it makes the consistency amazing, it’s also a great dairy free and plant based alternative. Although tahini delivers a bit of a nutty flavour, it is quite bland on its own which makes it perfect for blending with other flavours. Sesame seeds contain high oil content which is what makes tahini so silky and smooth in consistency. What is tahini anyways? It is ground sesame seeds. I like to use Nuts to You Nut Butter Organic Tahini, the only ingredient it contains is sesame seeds and nothing else! While tahini is considered a high-calorie food, a small amount goes a long way (you will notice this if you make this dressing).

All you need to make this dressing is a simple bowl and a whisk or spoon to mix with, nothing fancy! I live for recipe instructions like this. Feel free to get creative and add a little more or a little less of the ingredients. Everyone’s taste preferences are different. Turmeric is often an overpowering flavour, however, it is not as dominating in this recipe because of the ingredients it’s mixed in with, so don’t worry!

I personally like my dressings to have a thicker consistency (almost more of a sauce). If you like a thinner consistency, just keep adding tsp amounts of water until it’s reached the consistency you prefer.

TURMERIC TAHINI DRESSING

A nutrient-rich, delicious dressing recipe rich in anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants. Dairy free, gluten free, and vegan friendly.

Serves: 2 cups | Time: 10 minutes | Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup organic tahini butter
  • 1 tbsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Juice from one lemon
  • 3 tbsp of water to start, add more as needed

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a medium sized bowl and mix everything together until desired level of consistency is achieved. If your consistency is too thick, add tsp amounts of water at a time while mixing. If your consistency is too runny, add tsp amounts of tahini butter while mixing.
  2. Keep dressing stored in a sealed mason jar, or container of choice and store in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

Note- the dressing consistency will harden up a bit once refrigerated, just mix in tsp amounts of water prior to using it again to thin out the consistency.
